Committed to the Nurturing and Development of Each Child

Downs Park Day Nursery opened in January 1988 and is therefore a well-established early years setting. We pride ourselves on our high quality and professional standards, which is highlighted within our commitment to the Bristol Standard; a quality assurance scheme. This ensures continual reflection and development of our practice. Our main ethos is to provide a warm, welcoming environment that is a child centred, homely community, dedicated to the care and learning and development of children from 0 – 5 years.

We embrace the Early Years Foundation Stage, [EYFS 2012], which incorporates both
Prime and Specific Areas of Learning. The three Prime Areas are: Communication and
Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

The Specific Areas are: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and
Expressive Arts and Design. The EYFS, developed in 2008 and reviewed in 2012,
forms the structure for daily planning and allows staff to monitor your child’s progress in
each of the areas. Development is recorded in a variety of ways by means of evaluations,
photographs, written and recorded observations which, together, can track each child’s
learning journey and, identify where more support is required to consolidate skills and
knowledge. This process is child-centred, in that we base learning opportunities around the children’s individual interests making learning relevant, fulfilling and meaningful, maximising the learning potential. The EYFS therefore acts as a tool to evaluate progress and underpin future learning in your child’s ‘next steps’.

All our children are offered a broad and balanced range of activities and experiences carefully designed to provide your child with the best possible introduction to learning.

We encourage Parental Involvement and value your contribution to the care, development
and learning of your child. Together, we hope to ensure that the care and learning
experiences are specific to the needs of your child and, together, as a united team, we can ensure the best possible foundation for life.
